ABOUT SAM

Singaporean tenor Samuel Ng is a classical and operatic singer based in New York City. He has performed both in the U.S. and abroad, and with his artistry believes in inspiring audiences to dare to be individuals in everything they do. Sam sang the roles of Normanno in Lucia di Lammermoor with New York City Opera, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni with Teatro Grattacielo at the Phoenicia Festival of the Voice, and Tito in an abridged La Clemenza di Tito with Bronx Opera.

His latest role debut was as Hoffmann in Les Contes d’Hoffmann with Canto Vocal Programs. Sam recently played Don Ottavio in Amore Opera’s Don Giovanni, in which he was praised for his “breath control and flexibility” and “bravura, which got him a big hand.” (Eli Jacobsen, Parterre Box).

In 2024, he made his Lincoln Center debut in Classic Lyric Arts’ “A New Generation in Opera: Masterworks Forward,” alongside other esteemed artists--a memorable concert which featured internationally acclaimed soprano Nadine Sierra and tenor Seokjong Baek, in what was “a thrilling evening of opera.” (John Viscardi, OperaWire).

In 2022 and 2023, Sam had the pleasure of performing as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and Mercurio in La Calisto with Mannes Opera as well as participating in Santa Fe Opera’s workshop of The Righteous. Sam also traveled to France as an artist with Classic Lyric Arts, performing as Faust and Le Chevalier des Grieux in scenes from Faust and Manon respectively.

Other performed roles include Le petit vieillard and La rainette in L’enfant et les sortilèges, First Armored Man in Die Zauberflöte and Le Doyen de la Faculté in Cendrillon at the Trentino Music Festival. He also sang as Stephen in Laksa Cantata and the Frog Prince in Three Feathers with L’arietta Productions and Jacquino in Fidelio with The Opera People.

In addition to his operatic career, Sam has extensive experience as an artist educator and loves teaching musicians of all ages. He is currently a voice/piano teaching artist at both Willan Academy of Music and Harmony Program in New York City. He has taught voice, piano, and music theory at music schools D-Flat Studios, Harmony and Pitch Studios, and Joy Music Studio in Singapore.

Sam also has a passion for choral conducting and served as Assistant Conductor for Xinmin Secondary School Choir and as a vocal coach for Montfort Chorale. He maintains a small private voice studio and serves as tenor section leader at West End Collegiate Church. Sam completed his M.M. in Vocal Performance at the Mannes School of Music, and his B.A. in Theater Studies at the National University of Singapore.

“Soon-to-wed Stephen (tenor Samuel Ng) and Leah (soprano Ng Jingyun) fuss over whether laksa lemak should be served at their nuptials...here the dreamy Stephen and feisty Leah were well-characterized by both Ngs, helped by witty dialogue, and their final waltz of blissful truce eventually sealed the deal.”

“...the charming scene between Fritz and Suzel --"Suzel, buon di" was brought to life by the equally charming soprano Maia Sumanaweera and her courtly Fritz, sung by Samuel Ng. They evinced a lovely shy interaction with plenty of romantic undertones.” – Voce di Meche

“Special mention and commendation must be made of the two outstanding young artists Samuel Ng and Natasha Michella Da Costa playing the roles of Quinn (Bartender) and Julie (Dater) respectively. Phenomenal memorisation speed aside, their performance felt organic and an integral part of the whole.”
